Oldest beer factory found in Egypt

Egyptian and American archaeologists working at one of the most prominent historical sites of early Egypt have discovered the earliest known beer mill in the world.

Mostafa Waziri, secretary-general of Egypt’s supreme council of antiquities, said the mill is located in Abydos, an ancient burial ground found in the desert west of the Nile River, more than 280 miles south of Cairo.

Archaeologists discovered eight units, each about 65ft long and 8ft wide, all comprising roughly 40 pottery basins in 2 rows, which was used to warm up a combination of grains and water to make beer.

Egypt, in recent years, has declared dozens of historical discoveries with the hope of attracting more tourists.
